A note from Dr. Rao

Most fevers I see in Pune are viral and settle on their own in two to three days with rest, fluids and paracetamol. What I look for at the visit is the pattern: how long the fever has lasted, how high it runs, and what comes with it — a rash, body ache, burning urine or a cough that won’t settle. That tells me whether a blood test will change what we do. I don’t prescribe antibiotics for viral illness, and I will tell you clearly which warning signs mean you should come back the same day rather than wait.
