Home visits are for parents and grandparents who find travel to the clinic hard, and for patients recovering after a hospital stay. I carry a portable kit for checking blood pressure, sugar, oxygen levels and heart rhythm, and we can collect blood samples during the same visit. A home visit is a good time to review every medicine in the house, because confusion over tablets is common in older adults. Home visits are not for emergencies: for chest pain, breathlessness, sudden weakness or confusion, call 108 or go to the nearest hospital immediately.
